What is the EGL Code of Conduct for players?

This article provides the EGL Code of Conduct that players should follow.

EliteGamingLIVE Player Code of Conduct

(Season XIV and Beyond | Updated 11/2025)

EliteGamingLIVE (EGL) is a national scholastic esports league. As a player, you represent your team, your school, and this league at all times

This Code of Conduct sets clear expectations for behavior during Game Days, Practices, Scrimms, and all use of EGL platforms.

By participating in EGL, you agree to follow the standards below.

Core Principles

Respect for Coaches and Teammates

  • Follow your coach’s instructions and team strategy.
  • Use team communication to coordinate, not criticize.
  • Address mistakes constructively and move on quickly.

Professional Communication

  • Communication is limited to your own team; players do not chat with or see players from other teams in EGL.
  • Harassment, slurs, insults, threats, or targeted negative comments toward teammates or schools are not permitted.
  • Do not spam voice or text channels, talk over teammates intentionally, or disrupt team focus.

Fair Play and Integrity

  • Cheating, exploiting bugs, using unauthorized software, account sharing, or manipulating brackets/LiveScore is strictly prohibited.
  • Do not attempt to falsify results, “throw” matches, or collude to influence competitive outcomes.
  • Suspected issues (cheating, scoring errors, platform bugs) must be reported to your coach—not handled in chat or during a match.

Sportsmanship in Victory and Defeat

  • Compete to win every match; do not give up or intentionally play below your ability.
  • No taunting, gloating, or targeting individual players after wins.
  • After losses, avoid blame and focus on learning and preparation for the next match.

Safety and Privacy

  • Do not share personal information (address, phone number, personal social accounts, etc.) in EGL environments.
  • Report any behavior that feels unsafe, threatening, or in violation of this Code to your coach or another trusted adult immediately.

Representation of School and League

  • Behavior that would be unacceptable at school is unacceptable in EGL.
  • Follow school policies, game publisher rules, and EGL rules at all times.
  • Understand that your conduct online reflects on your school, your community, and the league.

Commitment to Growth

  • Treat Academy, Practices, and Scrimms as opportunities to improve, not casual “throwaway” sessions.
  • Arrive on time, with required equipment ready, and prepared to compete.
  • Accept coaching and feedback with maturity and apply it in future competition.

Consequences

Violations of this Code of Conduct may result in disciplinary action by the coach, school, and/or EGL, including:

  • Removal from part of a match, a full match, or an event
  • Loss of league-related privileges (e.g., Scrimms, special events, recognition opportunities)
  • Removal from the team and/or from participation in EliteGamingLIVE

This Code of Conduct is a condition of participation in EliteGamingLIVE.

Performance matters. Character does too.
