Extensions in Academy+: Custom Educational Content that Counts
Extensions allow an educator to connect their own projects, challenges, and activities to EliteGamingLIVE by awarding LiveScore when students complete them. If you already assign work outside of EGL Academy—labs, essays, projects, after-school challenges—Extensions give those tasks a direct impact inside EGL.
Extensions are available to Academy+ users only.
What Extensions do:
With Extensions, an educator can:
- Create a custom activity or project and give it a name and steps.
- Choose a LiveScore value (2, 3, or 5 points) for completing that Extension.
- Later, open the Grading area for a class, select the Extension, and give each student Half credit or Full credit based on their completion.
Extensions are not student-facing inside the platform. Educators handle all instructions and evidence however they prefer (in class, on paper, in another LMS, etc.), then use Extensions to record completion and award LiveScore.Who can use ExtensionsYou can use Extensions if:
- Your school or program has Academy+ enabled.
To assign credit for an Extension to students, you also need:
- At least one class created in Academy+.
- Students enrolled in that class.
You can create Extensions as soon as you have Academy+, even before your classes are set up, and assign credit later.Key rules to remember
- Each Extension has one fixed LiveScore value.
- When you create an Extension, you choose 2, 3, or 5 LiveScore. Once set and saved, this value cannot be changed.
- Each student can only earn credit for an Extension once.
- A student may receive either Half credit or Full credit for a given Extension in a given class. Once awarded, it cannot be edited, upgraded, or removed.
- Half credit is exactly half of the LiveScore value you chose.
- 2-point Extension → Half credit = 1 point
- 3-point Extension → Half credit = 1.5 points
- 5-point Extension → Half credit = 2.5 points
- LiveScore is permanent once awarded.
- If you later edit or delete an Extension, any LiveScore that has already been awarded to students through that Extension remains in place.
How to create an ExtensionYou create Extensions from your Academy+ dashboard.
- Open Extensions
- Go to your main Academy+ dashboard.
- Click Extensions.
- You will see a list of any Extensions you have already created, along with an option to add a new one.
- Start a new Extension
- Click Create Extension (or the equivalent “New Extension” button).
- Enter the Extension details
- Name
- Give the Extension a clear, specific title you will recognize later (for example, Body Blueprint: Design Your Own Organ System Model).
- LiveScore value
- Choose whether this Extension is worth 2, 3, or 5 LiveScore points for Full credit.
- Once you choose and save this value, you cannot change it.
- Add steps
- Extensions are built from a series of steps.
- For each step:
- Enter a Step title (required).
- Optionally add subtext with instructions, prompts, or reminders for students.
- Add steps one by one until the Extension fully describes the activity or project you want students to complete.
- Save the Extension
- When you are finished adding steps, click Save.
- Your new Extension will now appear in your Extensions list on the Academy+ dashboard.
You can return to this list at any time to view, edit, or delete your Extensions. Editing the name or steps does not affect any LiveScore already awarded. Deleting an Extension does not remove any LiveScore that has already been awarded to students from that Extension. How to assign LiveScore using ExtensionsTo award LiveScore to students for completing an Extension, you will use the Grading area for a specific class.
- Open Grading for a class
- From Academy+, go to your Classes.
- Click on the class where you want to award Extension credit.
- Select Grading.
- Go to the Extensions tab
- Within the Grading view, click the Extensions tab.
- You will see a list of all Extensions you have created.
- Open an Extension for grading
- Find the Extension you want to use (for example, Body Blueprint: Design Your Own Organ System Model).
- On the right side of that Extension row, click Open.
- View the student roster
- After clicking Open, you will see the student roster for the class you selected.
- Each student will appear with options for awarding credit for this Extension.
- Assign Half credit or Full credit
- Choose Half credit if the student partially completed the Extension requirements.
- Choose Full credit if the student met the full expectations of the Extension.
- Leaving a student unchanged means they receive no credit for this Extension.
- Save and finalize
- When you are finished assigning credit, click Save.
- LiveScore will then be awarded based on your selections:
- Students marked Full credit receive the full LiveScore value you selected when you created the Extension.
- Students marked Half credit receive exactly half of that value.
- Once credit is assigned and saved, it cannot be changed or removed.
Example ways to use ExtensionsExtensions are intended for any learning experience you already assign outside of EGL Academy, such as:
- A multi-day anatomy project asking students to design and label a body system model.
- An ELA writing challenge where students draft, revise, and present a short narrative.
- An after-school robotics or STEM challenge where students build and test a prototype.
- A social studies project requiring students to research and present on a historical figure.
In each of these cases, you run the activity however you like—using handouts, your learning management system, or in-class instructions—and then use Extensions to record who completed it and award LiveScore.
SummaryExtensions in Academy+ give you a simple way to make your own educational content “count” inside EliteGamingLIVE. You define the Extension, choose a LiveScore value, outline the steps, then use the grading workflow to award Half credit or Full credit to each student.
- Create Extensions from the Academy+ dashboard.
- Assign credit from the Grading → Extensions tab in each class.
- LiveScore is fixed and permanent once awarded.
More Helpful Information:
Academy+ is the enhanced version of EGL Academy that allows educators to create and manage classes, assign learning experiences, and track student progress through detailed reports. It includes everything in EGL Academy plus ready-to-use lesson plans, answer keys, our Skillquest partnership content, and custom Extensions that can award LiveScore.
LiveScore is EliteGamingLIVE’s point system that tracks how much students participate and progress across games and learning activities. Each time they complete approved tasks, they earn LiveScore, which contributes to their standing in EGL events and programs. For students, it feels similar to earning XP in a game, but it is tied to real learning and effort.
